i had a 2006 6.0 with 430 rear gears, it pulled like nobodies business and was a power house, only mod was a 4" mbrp exhaust

wd and i pulled the same dyno numbers back in 06

325/874tq

its designed to be a higher revving engine and really likes 2k rpm and above to be in its sweet spot
and if you look at the picture i gave the modded 7.3s a run mr. whatleys was running a highly modded 7.3

i seriously question the 11000foot test

How much were the modded 7.3's putting out and what stuff they have done to them?

I've driven similar 2011's in both models, and a Ram for comparrison. For the magazine both were picked up in Detroit brand new and broken in on the trip to Colorado.

Seems odd to me, also, but the Ford could have been a "Monday" truck. I didn't read anything too sinsiter into the article. Haven't read too much about how the Scorpion tows, but has to be better than the 6.4. GM has been building the D-Max for a lot longer and have had time to work out the kinks, while Ford is still perfecting theirs.

I would have to hook up a toy hauler and repeat a similar test rolling through Tallahassee on I-10 and see how effective the Ford brake is. To be fair, I think that test was a little extreme, and may be beyond what either had envisioned their trucks going through. I wonder if a 450 would have faired better.

I think the 6.0 is weak on power. Mine is a 2006 model and I'm disaapointed with the way it pulls. Granted, my two previous trucks had the 7.3L with manual transmissions, but they were much, much stronger when towing. The 6.0 will product decent power, but the engine has to produce pretty high rpms to generate the power, it's just not a torque producer. I have 3.73 differential. On the other hand, the D-maxs I have driven pull so much stronger than my 6.0. I prefer ford to GM trucks, but the difference in power between my 6.0 and the D-max is substantial.

I have to agree...I also have a 2006 F350 dually with the 6.0 with 4.30 gears. It's no where near the truck that my '03 dually was. The '03 had the 6.0 with 4.10 gears and it was a monster...I've kicked myself many a time over trading that truck. Maybe it's the model year??? Wonder if Ford turned down the "wick" on the motors in 2006 for some reason???

I have the 06 with an auto and it tows fine, Just with a few more rpms to get things rolling than the 7.3 I had before. Both had 3.73 gears. The tranny seems to like a 40-60hp tow tune to make it stay in lockup and not hunt for gears tho.

i agree that the 7.3 feels a little stonger out of the hole to me but my 2000 has an automatic and my 2005 6.0 has a manual but overall i would definitely choose my 6.0 from my comparison..as for the chevy who knows i know guys that swear by a dmax and when i was younger chevy was what i was gonna drive forever but that changed when it came time for a diesel..i dang sure aint buyin a dodge, chevy is higher and take government bailout money to spend on super bowl commercials and mvp prizes, so im sticking with my fords

Currently towing a Jeep to Tucson with my 11 F250. Trailer is a 3700 lb deck over and the jeep and truck bed are loaded w/ household items & clothes. Never towed before so I can't compare it but am having a blast so far and no shortage of power!

I got rid of my 6.0 for a new 6.7 unbelievable the power it has. I tow a 40Ft 5er that weights 14-15K. I was very disappointed in my 6.0 compared to my 7.3.
