Ok guys, I got it fixed. After I got everything apart I found a broken wire going into the shifter handle. The wire was broken flush with the handle and it was very hard to get it fixed but she is working again. What I did find out is that there are 3 wires, one is a ground and two carry 12 volts with one of the two haveing 12 volts constant and the other going from 0 to 12 depending on the button press. With 12 volts on the second wire the tranny acts normal but remove that 12 volts and this is when it hold shifts and rpm longer. I'm not sure what is happening in or at the tranny when you add or remove the 12 volts. I am curious but that will have to wait for another day.

glad to hear you got it resolved...still bizarre that our trucks are the same
year and yours has an indicator/light on the shifter (but not in the dash)...

where most of us only have the indicator on the dash.

any idea why the wire broke ? did it bind up some where ?

if you ever figure out the controll of the tranny i think youll be a hero...
id LOVE to be able to manually control my converter lock up w/ a switch
like the 4r100 guys have been able to do.

Ford Controls...

Bushpilot-In dealing with Crown Vics at least, the way that rsjohnsn figured out the 12v constant, 12v on/off and ground seems to be how Ford controls all of their systems like that (park kill switches to shut off sirens/lights, horn interface to cycle siren systems, etc). If you can locate the wiring that controls a system, you can figure out how to control the system by adding/removing 12v or ground. Just have to be careful that you don't bleed any 12v back into something that shouldn't get it. I was suprised at how simple it really is when you consider how much technology there is in the vehicle. Or perhaps the technician oversimplified things when he explained it to me so I could understand...:roflmao
