Ryland, I think he was talking about the Home Depot version of the John Deere. The real John Deere mowers like you have are awesome. The ones at Home Depot are apparently a cheapo with green paint.

OH THOSE! My bad  :sorry
Yea those are the 100 series I think, no frame and lots of cheap plastic. Our Deere dealer said they get lots of people who come in and freak out when they see the prices there and want to know why they dont have the same price's as the home depot ones, sticker shock I guess. Thats why I didnt by a Deere push mower, my dad's has the hydrostat drive along with the add on spin on type filter, thick aluminum deck, its nice but cost on the new ones is $890 Thats more than I wanted to pay for a push mower.

yes I was talking about the Home Depot version, $399 new propelled 3 speed. I've had it 7 years and replaced drive cable 3 times at $27 a pop. There is not a way to modify the cable becuase of room, and the pully it engages grinds it in half after two seasons.

Got the Toro

Went and picked up the Toro. Nothing quite like new stuff. I almost hate to go get it all covered with grass. It is guaranteed to start on the first or second pull for two years :sweet I wish my Craftsman high wheel weed trimmer had that guarantee, I wear my arm out getting it started.

Thanks for the replies :thanks

Congratulations on your new mower. You had mentioned using a bagger earlier in this thread, to be honest, I hate a bagger. Years ago, I had a Craftsman self propelled mower, mowed a couple of yards on the side, and had to buy a bag to satisfy one of my customers. I was always having to stop to empty the bag. The best way to cut grass and not have the trimmings everywhere is to use the mulcher. Plus you get free fertilizer. The picture of your mower also appears to have the front wheel drive, drive belt pullley system. That's what my Craftsman mower had and I loved it. Again, congrats and have fun mowing!!!!

Our old mower is a Mulcher. It seems to work great when the grass is short but if you let it go for a few days too long it seems to leave too much grass laying around even though it is mulched up. I thatched the lawn this spring but it is still a little bound-up with old grass down in the base. I figure we will bag about 75% of the time and mulch the other 25%. I do know what you mean about dumping the bag, it is a pain. One thing I did notice about the Toro is that the bag opening is as big as the bag as to where the Craftsman had a narrow opening that made it hard to dump(lots of shaking the bag to get it emptied). I am hoping that the Toro bag dumps a little easier.
