A few months ago I attempted to change the fuel filters on my '04 F250. The bottom filter changed just fine. The top was/is another story.

I bought this truck used. Apparently the last guy (or the dealer I bought it from) gacked up the plastic filter cap. The nut is all stripped :rant, and I can't find anything to remove it without destroying it.:dunno

I intend to buy a Billet Fuel Filter Cap to replace it, but I haven't ordered it yet.

I don't want to destroy the plastic cap without a replacement in hand. Anybody run into this before? Got any ideas?

BTW, I tried a 1/2" driver in the cap hole. Somebody tried that before, and put a crack it the nut! I'm afraid if I turn any harder I will destroy the cap.

I am looking for a strap wrench that has a narrow enough strap, otherwise it will slide off. Monkey wrench won't fit. Too tight an area. C-wrench wouldn't hold.

You and I were on the same page on the strap wrench though. Thx~

Had the same problem when I got o4 , used a small drift punch & small harmer , use a lot of TLC ( use the flat surface just above the aluminum housing). turn/TAP it counter clock wise to loosen, It only was about 5 minutes ( WHEN YOU SEE THE O RING YOU WILL BE ALL SET ABOUT 1/4 INCH GAP OR LESS, IT WILL LOOSEN BY HAND )
Hope his is a helps.

Wait till you have the replacement in hand unless you can afford to have the truck down if the cap breaks trying to remove.
