Howdy All,
The factory locking mechanism on my tool box (Delta I think) is shot. I was planning to put a pad lock on it and wondered how some of y'all who have done this did it. I bought some hardware at Lowe's today but before I do anything I'd like to see y'alls set up.
Thanks,
Craig

If your locks are of the type like THESE, use an aftermarket type replacement lock instead of a factory replacement part lock. Unknown to many people, probably 90% of those type of locks from the factory (typically standard equipment on RV storage compartment doors) all have the same key. It is what we refer to as a 751 key, because that is the designation for that keyblank/ tumbler pattern. As an employee for an RV dealer, we have sets of master keys for RV's. We have a key ring with between 10 and 20 keys for all the different possible RV entry doors. But on that key ring, we have but maybe 3 storage door keys. None of the 3 are masters, just regular keys. If you have a 751 key, you can open just about any lockable storage door in the campground and many pickup bed toolboxes as well.

Ironically, the replacement locks available from dealer's parts and accesories dept, are of different styles keys and tumbler patterns.

well, now the unknown's, KNOW. so if there are a sudden rash of tool box break-ins, we can all blame it on TG. :roflmao :roflmao :roflmao

Same can be said for most construction equipment ignition keys.

If I remember right, back in the late '90s, Saturns only had 8 different key patterns. 1 in 8 chance you could get in another one.

As for the toolbox, it is probably just a standard lock that you can get at the hardware store. A locksmith and maybe even a good employee in the hardware department can change the pins to different key patters. That might keep TG out of your toolbox full of goodies.

thanks tg........the secret is out.....:sly :D :D :D

Just consider it a free "I told ya so". :D :D

Back in the mid 80's while I was in ND, an Air Force inspector stole the keys for our crew's Dodge crew cab truck while it was parked in a "secured" area. We looked all over heck for the keys, under the truck, in our pockets, in the snow, above the visor, everywhere!! After a while we were getting somewhat desparate, we knew we were going to soon be tearing out to our B-52 on the flight line. So out of that desparation, I pulled out my car keys and tried the key for my 81 Plymouth K-car. Much to everyone's extreme shock and surprise, IT WORKED!!!

Sure enough, a short time later, we had our exercise response to our "BUFF" and I started the truck with my car key. I know there was a very be-fudled and confused IG inspector hiding behind some vehicle or around some corner, watching us and not understanding what went wrong with his little "prank". :roflmao :haha
