I have the opportunity to buy a very clean 2004 f-250 super duty with 7500 miles but it has the 6.0 motor and I have been hearing nightmare stories about this motor...any thoughts would be appreciated.

Not all 6.0L have issues. Make sure that, when you test it out, you test drive it from a COLD engine status (make sure that the owner has not 'B' for ya), look for leaks, climb under the truck and look at everything, also look at the top of the engine, check the brakes for possible warped rotors. Other then that it's the regular look at the used car/truck run of the mill.

Carfax it too.

I have over 107,000 miles and no major problems. This is my daily driver and I am happy. You CAN find issues with any diesel truck engine. They ALL have their own problems. Run an Oasis report by giving the VIN number to Ford and it will tell you everything that Ford has done to that truck. This is Ford's own reporting system and any Ford Dealer can access it. Good Luck.

7500 miles on an 04? Thats either a real creampuff or someone has been fooling with the mileage. Check out the Oasis as Dave suggested, it will give you an honest picture of her past.

The 6.0 is a great engine - stick to the maintenance and don't mod it up if you don't want any trouble. If you do that and don't drive it like you stole it, it will be very reliable. If you want to drag race it, you will have to do alot of expensive mods to keep it together, but if you are looking for a great tow vehicle, you are on the right track.

2005 FX4 76000 lots of little things, in the shop alot. No mods except exhaust. Dont race it. Change oil evrey 5000 miles, so its not lack of maintenace or abuse. I love the truck - not happy with the engine problems and the amount of time it has been in shop. Have aways been a Ford guy. Injectors replaced, they have pulled the engine 3 times. Bad mileage.

My son has a Dodge- better engine- never any problems- he gets good mileage- don't like the truck-body or interior as well as I like the Ford, but obviously looks can only get you so far.

Something to think about.

I've had my 03 since it was new. I drive it hard, modified it to my liking, and enjoy my truck without being scared ( except of the cops). I have no complaints and no regrets. As far as the cummins, it's a nice engine if you can stomach driving a [ DODGE ].

With only 7500 miles make sure it doesn't have a blue title, like been wrecked and just now being put back together. Also don't pay to much for it.

i have also had my truck since it was new and modded it but i use it and maintain it and have had very few problems and even if it did its still better than driving a piece of crap truck just to get a cummins...i also would be just a hair leary of it with 7500 miles because these trucks need to be drivien and the vanes on the vgt turbo will stick if they have not been worked out(driven)

Every company has their LEMONS. If you are having to continually have Ford repair your truck I would try a different dealership. It sounds like they are just placing bandages on it until the 100K. This would be true for any dealership. fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me.
