Had to take a trip to loudon tn this last weekend. Left on Thursday at 12:30 pm and got to the hotel at 12:30 am Friday. This is what crazy I left Tampa and was getting 14.3 mpg going up took 3 fill up to get there and 4 DPF cleanings at 70 mph. Played in the mountains for two days and head home on Sunday well, Coming home the truck was running the best it ever had and the mileage jumped big time. By time I got home I was getting 19.8 mpg at 68 mph. This is all by hand figuring.

Cleaned once that I could tell and that was just before pulling into the driveway.

If I understand this DPF stuff, it will clean more if you drive mainly in town, and less if you are on the highway. Am I correct? :dunno

Yes, It will go into cleaning mode more in town with the idling. But you need to higher rpm to blown the crap out of the dpf. So you have to get it on the road and drive at high speeds to clean it right. It's a pain in the butt, and I'm going to delete it here soon I hope.

I am wondering about this DPF thing. In the first weeks after I bought my 2012 the lie-o-meter showed 20-22mpg on the highway. Now at 12k miles it stays in the 16-17mpg range. Is the DPF getting stopped up? Does the DEF go bad if not stored correctly?

FWIW.......my old truck would always get better fuel mileage in the mountains. Don't have a clue why.

Hey Dogman,
Maybe it's the mountain air that your truck liked. I know I sure do. But generally my truck only gets better mileage in the mountains...going downhill!

Other thought is that you just cleaned it out real good by running it all that distance, shook the cobwebs out so to speak? Which then reduces the DPF action?

I notice if I've been doing short hops for months then run a longer trip the mileage isn't very good at first, then after a tank or so it gets 19-20 mpg. Of course, different engine and all...

I have a 2011 F350 6.7 Diesel with 369,000 miles which about 1/2 is towing anything from a 26' trailer to a 40+' trailer all over the USA and Canada.
I deleted the DPF and EGR at 367000 miles because the DPF filter was clogged up.
I installed the Flo-Pro Exhaust Stainless/ with muffler, H&S EGR Delete Kit and H&S Mini Maxx from Performance Truck Products.
I love it!!!!!
Fuel mileage increased only slightly but it is well worth it not having to deal with the DEF.
