thinking of buying 03

my dads friend told us he would sell his 03 250 with bad tranny for 10 grand whats the bad news on these motors any input appreciated

There is really no bad news on the motors, but there are some things that you should know before you go buying any '03. Get an Oasis Report from your Ford dealer and that will show all of the work done on the truck by Ford. You want to look at the engine work for head gaskets, or EGR work or EBP sensor work. Or any other major repair (and this goes for any truck or car). How many miles on it? The Torqueshift will run some bucks to get rebuilt, but nothing special now that they have been out for a few years. Good Luck.

If the truck runs good now, it will run good tomorrow. They had some teething problems, but they usually show up in 30 - 40,000 miles.

its got 155k on it, its never pulled anything but a 20ft bass boat. Mostly highway miles, it has never been worked on. He drove it from the day he bought until yesterday when his tranny acted up first thing to go wrong.

That sounds like a pretty decent deal if the motor has no bad history.

If the truck is a 03, does it have the 6.0 or the 7.3. 2003 had both. It's still a good truck no matter what it has. Plan on spending $3000.00 to $5500.00 on a good tranny .

yes i figured 4 or 5,000 for a good one thats why he sold it to me for 10,000 i think i might just go ahad and get a custom tranny though like a suncoast or something, im on my 5th rebuild in 2 years on m 99 250 think its best to buy a factory reman. or a custom
