I am thinking about getting a used f250 PSD probably an 01-03 depending. I am kinda stuck between a ford or a chevy/gmc. My dad has a f350 CC LB, PSD. its a great truck pull our TT and everything else we've needed it to do. I like the idea of having a solid front axle, and I know the 7.3 has been around forever. BUt my one main concern is the auto transmission. What kinda power in stock form can they take. And is their a projected life span. LIke I know the auto on grand cherokee is going for around 150. after that start counting the miles down till it fails. I would like to get a f250 ext cab short bed with the 7.3. Just wondering what to look out for when shopping for one. thanks

dont know anything about the 7.3 trucks. i think they have a 4speed auto.

several guys here that do have them, they will chime in before long.

i have a 6.0 with the torq shift, i really like mine alot.

129,000 plus miles and no probs

The 4R100 is a good tranny, but with any brand of truck, be it GM,Dodge or Ford, if you are going to mod the motor for more power you will have to mod the tranny to take it. If the engine is left in stock form then the tranny with proper maintenance and cooling will go a long long time.
