Try chopped cashews on the glue strips it's what we used when I did facilities maintenance.

When I store a couple of my vechiles in the winter I use slivers of irish spring soap. (the original) The little buggers hate the smell of it and will leave right away.

"Manly yes, but we ladies like it too! And it gets rid of those pesky mice!"

Somehow I don't see Procter & Gamble rewriting the commercial to tout the benefits of Irish Spring as a rodent deterrent. Some people might get the idea that they could bathe with Irish Spring and they would be protected from the two legged rats and mice we meet on a daily basis.
