This morning, I was going to take our 2005 Ford Five Hundred to the dealer for an oil change and a fuel filter change. I'm about 8000 miles early on the fuel filter, but with the ethanol that's being put in the gas now, I thought it would be best. In addition, the car has been running a little rough at times, like it's missing or sputtering. We left it at home and went to work in the PSD (wife and I work similar hours and ride together). This morning, it started for a few minutes then died before I pulled out of the driveway then it wouldn't do anything, just like the battery was dead (but it wasn't). I called Ford's Roadside Assistance and had it towed to the dealer (I rode with him in his nice International DT466). They've determined that a fuse for a processor was blown and have it running, but they want to determine what caused the fuse to blow because they've never seen this happen in a Five Hundred. Anyone else ever had something like this happen in any vehicle?
Just curious. Hopefully it will be ready by Monday. I'm just glad that it stalled in my driveway and not on the street.

Not yet. I talked to them a couple of hours ago (they closed at 6 CDT). The service advisor said they first took it to the group that handles electrical problems. When they discovered that it was in the computer, they assigned it to the group that handles computer problems. They're still trying to determine the cause for the blown fuse. Shop is open till noon tomorrow. The mechanic that is working on it will be there tomorrow, but most likely will be Monday before they can determine anything. The car's been running rough at odd times, we thought it might be the gas, but we buy gas at different locations (mostly Quick Trip and WalMart) that all have been good. Since the additive MTBE is banned, and 5-10% Ethanol is now being used, we thought it was the fuel. We'll just wait and see what is found.

if only they could make one strong enough for a psd engine, the perfect towing tranny,

hope they get her running again

Nothing yet. I'm gonna wait until Monday (the shop closed at noon today) and follow up again. It's really a great car (Of course I'd prefer to have another Crown Vic like my '95). We've got the 6 spd tranny, I'm not too sure about the CVT one. The 6 spd has a better EPA mileage rating than the CVT.

We put 158000 miles on our 95 C/V and sold it after getting my PSD in 2002. I think we should have kept it and got it to 200K Miles. The dealer where the Five Hundred's in the shop has two 05 C/V's on the used lot that are pretty nice, but the really nice one I found on their website is a used 2005 Town Car with 20K miles for $23,000. I feel like seeing if I can trade the Five Hundred on it. It's a beaut. I haven't seen it "in person" but the pics on the website look great, it's solid white with (I think) gray interior.
