synthetic oil

Guys I need to do the 1st oil change on the 6.0 psd.

I would like to use synthetic to extend the changing intervals.
not sure how long I can get with synthetic???

I have seen the mobil 1 5w-40 online but not in the stores
I have seen the 15w-40 "delvac" in the parts store

the mobil (5w-40) 1 is a different weight than the 15-40 which ford recommends.

what do you guys think?

Many, including me say to wait for more miles before using synthetic oils. I would wait until 10,000 miles before using syn oils. Others will argue that the auto makers use syn oils from day one and this is true in GAS engines but not diesels. Your choice.

i can only add that FORD will even say that using syn. you still must change at there discretion ~3500-5k miles. this is what they say, but it is your choice. i would wait till later. i am using the mobil 1 5w-40 too. got a couple few hundred miles b4 an oil sample is due at 5k on the oil...

According to some of the articles I have read, it is recommended to change the oil at 1000 miles and then again after the next 5000- 7500 miles. After that I have read that you can start using the syn oils. I have just recently started using Amsoil 15w40 syn oil and their EaO filter. It is rated for 25000 miles or 1 year with a oil sample at 10000 miles. The only reason I started using this is because of some friends who have had very good luck with the product and are getting atleast 25000 miles out of the oil before it is recommended to be changed. Just my Good luck!

I'm not a fan of Amsoil, but if it's working for you guys, have at it.

I use Rotella synthetic myself, and change it at 5,000 mile intervals..
