I'm getting ready to make the switch to synthetic. I will also be adding an Amsoil by-pass oil filter. Here is a brief explanation leading up to my question: the 6.0L owners manual says the oil capacity is 15 quarts, and I've read here to only add 14 quarts when changing oil, due to 1 quart remaining in the HPOP. The by-pass filter will require an additional 1 quart. So, is there any way to purge the 1 quart of regular oil in the HPOP, and add 16 quarts of new synthetic, or do I not address the HPOP, and just add 15 quarts of new synthetic (14 plus 1 for the by-pass)?

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, I accidentally added 17 ounces of Power Service cetane boost (7 too many) to 30 gallons of diesel. Will that cause any problems until I refuel?

I would not worry about the 1 qt. left in the HPOP as it is only 1/16 of the total amount of oil. Purging the HPOP is a LOT of work for very little gain. When I switched to synthetic I just drained the old and added the new, EZ!!! Yes, I did change the filter...
The extra PS you added shouldn't cause any problems, in fact it may help clean your injectors a little better.
