Your best bet is to use a relay and have it power the compressor. the power to the coil side of the relay should come from the ignition side of the ignition switch. I had to do that for all my switches added to control my switched accessories because I killed my batteries once. Tap all coils sides from one wire and all accessory relays power from the battery at full voltage. Major wiring can be cut short under the hood. these can be bought for under $10.00
