thinking of buying a superduty that has lost compression, i had a 94.5 powerstroke but not very familiar with superduty's. can i get the oil pan and heads off and push the pistons out with the engine still in the truck or do i have to pull it out of the truck? and also i hear all the 6.0 horror stories about having to pull the cab to do anything, what about 7.3's what would i have to remove to pull the heads or entire engine?

nope gotta pull the motor, There is a tight rivited in crossmember just under the pan, and the last 2 or so cylinders are under the cowl under the hood. But I hear it is not to bad to pull the motor.

It looks like I might need to pull my pan soon. SOOOoo. To do this you need to pull the trans and all the front out? Like the rad, ect. and bumpers and stuff?? :dunno:dunno

I would say it would help the engine is like 800lbs but it is deep in the engine bay so you would possibly need the reach and the capacity.

I agree with nswsparky on the lift. You will need to reach in the engine bay a ways to get it out. don't cheap out on the lift. Get a good one. Can you imagine the cost of repairing the truck if you dropped the engine on the truck? Or yourself???

you need the 2 ton one at a minimum, and given the lifting capacity at max extension is 1/2 ton or 1000 lbs you will have to disconnect the transmission as that'll put you over the weight capacity and make the cherry picker want to tip over.
