I have a 2007 6.0L...I have had to clean the EGR valve numerous times over the past few months. Each time its either caked with carbon or stuck open. Does anyone what causes this?

Do you ever get on it, I don't mean pill the tires or anything like that, just take off and make it wind out up to 70 MPH a time or two a week. 6.0's don't like to be babied, it needs to work a little.
Are you changing the oil and filters every 5000 miles and using a good oil.

X2 on what WD40 said......

Get on it every once in a while.... like getting on the Interstate.... If I have been putting around for a while, and get on the interstate and roll into the throttle, I can see a haze behind me.... that clears before I am on the travel lanes and it stays clear till I put around again... "soccer mom" kind of trips.

Also, do not idle for extened periods, and I have found that if you do let it idle for a while... when you get moving again get on it a few times, like if you are in town, take off hard from the next few lights... this exersizes the EGR and the Turbo.

This is how I have driven my truck for the last 3 years..... it is an 03 and I have not had the EGR out of the engine, or the turbo cleaned..... ever..... and I just rolled over 100k.....

I completly agree! 6.0 need to be driven hard!!! they are dirty engines and i would even just sit in the parking lot in park and just floor it for about 5 min. trust me the 6.0 loves it and needs it! You will probably see lots of white smoke but it will cleare up after a few min. it wount hurt the engine. this is what ford tells us to do.....That might help you. Or you egr cooler has a very small leak and causing alot of carbon in you intake manifold

could always do an EGR delete, then you don't have to jack with it anymore..
