I've noticed, since I bought my truck a few years ago, that it is sometimes hard to steer the truck at idle (like when parking). I changed the powersteering fluid and flushed out the cooler, then filled with new p/s fluid. It didn't seem to help. Is there any kind of restrictor in the system that could be modified? I had a Grand Am GT once that had steering problems and the fix was opening up the hole in a restrictor that was inline. As always, thanks for any and all advice.

Drew

Just an update, my new Stancor GPR is awesome!!!! I highly recommend it.

is it just hard to steer at low rpms or if the brake is pressed to?

my 550 had the same problem and the pump had to be replaced.

mine does it every now and then, usually if I don't give the accumulator time to fill after a start-up..

Mine does it from a dead stand still also but let it roll 6 inches and it turns fine.

Mine too, at times, in 10 years, in certain conditions :dunno

Ford seems to use (and has used) the same PS pump on just about everything they make..for years..The "One Size Fitz All" thing ? Wunder if that has anything to do with it.

Common problem that can be on even new trucks, brakes and PS use the same
pressure from the same pump. Roll a little while turning the wheel and there
will be no problem. Easier on the steering components too.

Been dealing with this for years, ford p/s pumps are terrible for this. The best thing I've found is to put an additive in it, i use lucas's ps additive. Once you get this in it, it all but stops the "sticky" wheel issue. fwiw
