I suspect my starter is drawing too high of amprage. Dose anyone have the specs on amprage draw on a loaded starter and a unloaded starter for troubleshooting?

I am thinking of the high draw because when starting the voltage is pulled down to 9.5 volts ( which is too low to start) With NEW batteries and fully charged. The only other thing I can think of is the cables have a high resistance, but when I checked voltage drop between inside and at the batteries I only have a .3 volt drop.

Any help?

IF your voltage is being pulled down to much bad cables CANNOT be the cause, the voltage is going somewhere, if the cables had to high of resistance they couldn't carry enough amps to drop the voltage.

I agree, I have pulled the starter, funny thing though, I tried to run the starter with a 200amp battery charger and right off a battery, and it won't spin, but in the truck it would spin over. I am really thinking the starter has a dead short. and I haven't had time to take it to an armature shop.

I would like to know if anyone knows what amprage draw it should have unloaded, and loaded.
