Starter mystery?
MY “X” is a 2001 model and original starter was replaced about 2+ years ago. Since that, time has not had any problems until this holiday weekend. The history of weekend on Sunday I ran a short trip of about 20 miles and came home when I decided wo wash the “X”. everything is find and no problems.
When I completed to wash job I planned to put the “X” back into garage. To my surprise the “X” would not start.
I did not have any SES light.
The starter would start to turn like it had low voltage (batteries are good) then make sound like bendix . It never just went click click. Engine was hot.
Monday morning I used a space original .OEM key and still had same problem of turning like it had low voltage. Engine is cold for Mississippi (66*) but truck did start. I took the “X” to service shop that replaced the original starter.
The service shop started the “X” on Tuesday morning w/o any problems. They checked for any codes and none was found. They checked with engine hot no problems starting.
This morning I have been on short trip 20 miles w/o any starting problems.
I did switch to the old spare key and now have my old daily key as a spare. What could have caused the starter low voltage problem? Any ideas.
Thanks
Ken
