I had trouble removing the cap for the fuel filter. Of course the 1/2" drive just chews up the hole. So I'm posting a picture of the method I used. I actually used a long pry bar for leverage instead of the screwdriver seen in the picture. It made it very easy to remove using this method. I tried the Motorcraft filter, but I removed the old one and realized that the cap had the pre-filter/screen molded to it. So I had to change the cap and filter this time.

if you have the 6-prong socket for old style 4WD wheel bearing jam nuts, that works slicker-n-snot

i'd check the power dist block under the hood and the fuel pump before i checked the tank. you have to either drop the tank or pull the bed to get the cover off.

... Or you can use the Oil filter wrench, providing its the "Band" type..... And unless you bought the Truck new, you should check by the Frame rail to see "IF" some one may have added a pre-filter. It would be just (in most cases) prior to the Fuel pump. Near the Drivers door.

... And don't ferget to "dress" the new O ring/gasket with some clean diesel, before you cinch the new cap/filter down.

Makes for easier removal.. next time 'round.

And Real Tight... is NOT, Better.

Snug is as tight as they need to be. Everyone over tightens these caps and causes replacements to be necessary.

When tightening, I use my 1" torque wrench and snug to 750lbs this way I know no fuel will leak out.................. Just kidding.... I know some where some one thought I was serious... snug is good... fire it up ... check for leaks...
