hello , I have a 99 f250 powerstroke super duty the speedo just quit working , does anyone know if this is cable driven or is it electronic ?
I bought this truck at auction and so far no big surprises however what I thought may be a oil ring problem may be valves . I have three adjacent cylinders with low compression while all others are about 500 lbs . Has anyone experienced this before .

thanks, Owen

The speed sensor is on the rear end housing. It is on the top of the Center Section and has two wires coming out of it. Easy change and not too expensive. The motor sounds like re-build time.

On a 99 yer speedo is gear/cable driven. If it just plain "Quit".. all at once, yer cable prolly broke. If odometer still registers miles, it's the speedo head.

??????? 99 instrument cluster has no cable ?????????

Correct no Cable... Pull the sensor top of the dif. if you see a lot of Ferrus buildup you may get away with a good cleaning, also a good indicator if its time for a lube change. the sensor ...If I Recall was around 30.00 at NAPA. They may have to look it up as a rear ABS sensor, as the one they kept trying to ell me was for the tranny. My tranny has no speed sensor.
