When I shut my truck off there is something that sounds like a little electric pump or motor that keeps running in the engine compartment for about 30-45 seconds. I have no idea what it is and if it is normal or not. Anyone else's truck do this? I have never noticed it on any other diesel that I have been in or test drove.

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply.

I wondered about the turbo but it sure doesn't sound like a turbo spooling down. When the noise stops it stops all at once and there is a click like a relay switching. Unless it is something to cool the turbo down after engine shut down. Which could be the case I suppose but none of the other turbo diesels I have driven have done this. This is the only 6 liter I have driven but the PS 7.3, the Cummins and the Duramax don't do this.

I have no idea. I am trying to research that while this question is on the forum to see what I can find as well as hear what others on here have to say. The moment I find something to substantiate this one way or the other I will post it.

Vacuum pump? Check the passenger side of the engine compartment on top of the wheel well.

sounds like the post cycle of injectors, pecm programing is stil installed
it cycles or dry fires the injectors for up to 45 seconds after shut down to aid in preventing spool valve sticking it was aimed at flks who dnt change your oil regulary... it has been replaced now by an inductive heating cycle reflash ...
sorry i dnt have the numbers
right now

When you prepare to start the truck and you're waiting on the glow plugs you get a "buzz" from the engine. If that's the sound you're hearing when you shut the truck off, then it's the injector shutdown feature. It was present on the 06E17 flash. I have it on my truck.
