Some info on early 6.0's please

I currently have an '05 6.0L Superduty with single rear wheels. I'm looking at an '04 6.0L dually to pull my camper with. We've all heard the horror stories about the early 6.0's. So far I have 24,000 miles on my '05 with no problems at all.

My question is this: I know the 6.0L came out mid 2003. Are there any leftover problems in the 2004 6.0L's that I need to worry about or did Ford have the bugs out by then?

New to the forum but looking forward to learning a lot from the members.

Welcome to SDD.

I THINK Ford worked out all the problems, i am sure somebody else with a little more knowledge will answer that.

I just wanted to recommend that before you buy the truck to get a complete history on the truck through Carfax and through the Ford OASIS report. You can get the OASIS report at any Ford dealer and you only need the VIN, any work that has ever been done to the truck at any ford dealer will be on that report so you can see if it has any cronic problems to be concerned with and with it being an 04 it has had a couple years to build up a history (if it has one).

Im @ 50k and havent had any problems...the reverse planetary gear
recall was performed before i had any problems and ive had one egr
replaced (under warrenty)...

ive pulled cars & hauled motorcycles on my 18' open trailer...to the
tune of 12k miles (of the 50k on the truck)...id buy another in a second,
but i WOULDNT buy 1st model year of anything (ive got a 1999 bmw
motorcycle that taught me that lesson)

get the oasis report...and any dealer that wont show it to you is
hiding something....ive HEARD anything 04 built AFTER september
03 has significantly less problems (bought mine in aug 04 and it was
built in may of 04)

135k on my 10-03 built 2004 F350 SRW, no major problems either.

75K on the 03, tons of problems, all corrected by Ford. If you can afford to go without the truck for a while 03&04's are fine but some can be risky. I bought my 06 because I didn't want to get into a situation where I had to replace the 03 with the first year of the 6.4L - and end up USC again.

So I would say get the newest truck you can afford with a clean oasis & maintenance records.
