Hey Bama, how much do those type of trucks go for except outfitted with an RV-type living quarters in back and 5th wheel hitch on the back? Any good forum sites that I can read on?

If I get one, it will be to tow a 23K lbs M929/930 mil-dump truck, so I'll need a lo-boy trailer.

Thanks,

Al

coverted Volvo 660/770 (single drive axle) used tractors (400k miles or so)
go for anywhere between 40k & 55k....or more.

it would be a SIN to hack a peterbuilt up for toterhome pulling.

Hey Al.

A brand new car hauler will sell for anywhere from 225,000 upto 260,000 (depends on make of truck and diff. options available on truck and trailer)

It would be hard for me to say about an RV puller. I really dont know anything about that area of truck use. I have seen and I know that more and more older trucks are being recycled as Totor Homes.

There is a company in TX somewhere that uses a Peterbilt 330 (i think thats right) chassis, and they custom build crewcabs out of them for the RV puller market.

For a truck alone outfitted to do such:

Used: could be anywhere from 50 thou and up

New: could be anywhere from 100 thou and up

I guess it just depends on what you want in options.

Thanks for the help, that Volvo site is what I remember seeing before.

Couple questions:

- What's the difference between Class 8 and Class 7?
- Why does he mod them from dual drive to single drive axle?
- Will one of these single axle trucks pull a lo boy trailer with a 25K lb mil-vehicle on it?

Thanks!

Al

Class 7 and Class 8 are weight ratings. 8 is heavier. Your f-350 is a class 3, my f-250 is a class 2.
The change from tandem axles to single rear axle has to do with weight, ride, and expense. Those four tires on the back, that are not needed for a toter, are really expensive.
A single axle truck has a capacity of about 60,000 lbs. usually. Figure that the tractor weighs around 18k (it varies), the trailer will weigh around 12k (it varies) and that means that you have about a 30k cargo weight. Probably enough to haul your dump truck, if you are not carryong any other weight.

Watched "Toterman", picture on right, load Smartcar in a Branson MO Campground this July.. a show in itself... "Toterman" owns a machine shop in Deleware.. his little "homemade tricks" (bed, Smartcar rack).. are awesome..
