crank case vent...on some (recent)...6.0 & at least some 7.3's ford
is forced to route the crand case pressure/mist back into the engine...
on the 6.0 they send it back thru the turbo/intake where it settles
in the intercooler (when it cant or doesnt blow past the flex/hose joints
for the intercooler tubes).

the ccv mod takes the oil mist and gets it out of the intercooler and into
(hopefully) a catch can or filter of some type, that can be drained
periodically.

Potentially stupid question, but what does fuel in the oil look like? I know what oil and water mixing looks like.

It doesn't look persay like anything unless it is so bad your oil is thinned out like fuel, 1st gen duramaxes do that when injectors go bad. Pull the dipstick and fuel pukes out. If it isn't horrible though, it will just thin the oil out and make it smell like diesel, an oil scan is the best way to see it though. The real check is to put your thumb over the tube and see if it has tons a pressure, and mists oil like crazy, if it does worry, otherwise I wouldn't worry about it.

Hey JohnDeere!!!
Glad to see you around. No pressure on the dipstick tube. Pulled the stick and put my thumb over the hole. I can hold it there as long as I want with no pressure pushing against it. On the flip side, when I rev up over 1K RPM's it starts acting like I have a bad valve cover gasket. This is a new development since I started this post.

probably just crankcase vapor not being pulled back into the engine.

on a gasser, this would happen through the PCV system, but on a diesel, that has no intake vacuum, it's basically just drafted back in...

there's gonna be a hose about the size of your thumb coming off one of the valve covers and leading to the intake snorkel.. make sure it's connected, and not collapsed on itself..

The easiest way to find fuel in the oil without an oil test is to get a clean white sheet of paper and get some warm to hot oil on your hand and flick it onto the paper watch the oil spots if it has fuel in it it will work itself to the outside of the spots.:sly
