Smoke from dipstick tube

Howdy All,
Just when I thought everything was going fine I see smoke coming out of my dipstick tube. Have I just missed this all of the years I have owned my truck or is this indicative of something else going wrong?

Sup Craig,I always get a little crankcase vapor from the oil fill neck at the valve cover,does it sound similar to what you're getting?

craig- this is with the dipstick in or out? are you leaking from the dipstick tube seal too?

are we talking little puffs, smoke rings or more like smoke signals. think how you would describe it to click and clack.

Yeah, just some lite smoke coming out, not like it's billowing out. I just got kind of nervous since I fixed the oil cooler finally, and now I see this. Oil is still clean as is the coolant so it seems all is well so far.

Hey Dennis,
This happens with the dipstick in and out. The smoke is a constant lite "wisp". No change in engine sound that I can detect. Fresh oil change and coolant change over the weekend, both fluids are still clean, no cross contamination.

smoke ? or oil mist ? surely this is outta my area of knowledge...


im just thinkin' out loud here but...

BUT if it were smoke comin' outta the dip stick wouldnt that
mean the RINGS were leaking...for exhaust to get past
and down in to the crank case.

wouldnt you also expect to find fuel in the oil if the rings were
leakin' ?

Potentially stupid question, but what does fuel in the oil look like? I know what oil and water mixing looks like.

any GASOLINE car or truck ive ever owned...when it had a RING issue
it would SMOKE when you stepped down on it ('course thats
hard to see w/ a diesel)

Hey Tbar,
I am not sure what the CCV mod is so I am going to say no. I seen the CCV in signatures but don't know what it is.
