I have a chance to purchase a Smith and Wesson .45 cal semi auto pistol. It's a model number 0457 with a 3 3/4 inch barrel. I think it's listed for a pretty good price. Does anybody have an opinion on this gun?

it should be a 4507, and yeah, the single stack Smith's are pretty decent bang-bangs
they never were one for pounding incessantly with handloads, & you might want to have a gunsmith put a buffer kit in anyway...
but one thing I always did like was the mag drop safety.
get in REAL trouble, like the bad guy has his hand round yours, just drop the mag... now you have a chance to kick his butt while he's distracted...
