When I start my 99 f250 in the morning, the driver side smoke stack puts out a very small amount of white smoke for like 2 secs. It is all gone around 5 secs. Is this something to worry about? I've noticed the cycle time for the wait to start light takes a lil longer to go off. Truck fires right up, runs smooth, has power still and still gettin the same fuel mileage. This truck has over 253k on it. I believe the glow plugs and injectors have already been replaced since before I bought it. Just wondering if there are some other things to check like gp relay or whatever. What you guys think before I go diving in this?

In all honesty...I wouldn't worry about it. If it goes away, then its just a little unburnt fuel going out...which is normal. You could test your gp relay if you wanted, but until you start seeing biggier issues...I'd keep on keepin on;tu

With everything you've stated (?).. Not To Worry.

Be sure you don't step on the throttle.. as you start it.. let the WTS cycle, and turn the key.. let it fire up, on it's own. Try that.

What yer seeing is un-burnt fuel, possibly caused by an un-needed throttle input.. causing more fuel than is needed, being injected in to.. Cold cylinders, even though.... the air has been heated by the Glow Plugs..

Whala: Grey/White Smoke.

Yea in the mornin I cycle the cold start, fire it up and go do my chores for like 10 to 15min. I never give it any throttle when its cold. I will just keep on truckin it sounds. Thanks guys! What injector cleaner should I run in this? I have never ran injector cleaner in it since I've owned it. I always run supertech outboard 2stroke oil in it. Should I be runnin an injector cleaner in it every once in awhile? I usually put in 16oz per 26 or 30gal.

Along with the 2 cycle oil.. A good dose of Diesel Kleen, by Power Service, is a Good Thing now & then. in the [Grey jug], avalilable at W-Mart. Just follow the ratio instructions.

My .03 ?

x2 on that. i run that through there from time to time as well. As a rule of thumb though...do it when you havent added any of the 2 cycle oil. adding both of those is sort of double dipping in a way.

Thanks guys! I notice a big difference when I dont run that 2stroke oil. Its noiser without it of course. If I drive it like a grandma i get 18mpg. Driving it NORMALLY, I get 14 to 15 haha. Im happy with that.

I love Diesel Kleen....I have to be careful not to over use it. But has anyone ever noticed their fuel, in the fuel bowl, look sparkly when running it...like it had metal shavings in it. I ask because I was doing research on the Fitch fuel catalyst and thats what it uses. It has a sack with metal shavings that slowly release the shavings into the fuel (guess it makes a firework affect in the combustion chamber:dunno), but the bag can bust screwing up the fuel system or just corrosion from the metal shavings....like sand wearing down a rock. **Thats the research I have done** Shouldn't we be going to the white bottles of Kleen? It says that the white jugs are formulated for winter enviroment....and gray jugs for the warmer climate.

Stroked68: you might have a weak GP or two. access to a scanner? you might pull a code on a GP circuit being funny. otherwise, you could check the glow plugs through the connector on the valve cover gasket. remember, GP's aid in starting and initiating combustion. have you checked your oil level lately?

But has anyone ever noticed their fuel, in the fuel bowl, look sparkly when running it...like it had metal shavings in it.

why are you looking in the fuel bowl? why are you removing the filter and cover to look at the fuel?

how/why is this relevant?

depends on where you are.... since most of us live somewhere where the temps are still around or above 40 degrees, we would use the gray bottle. where its winter right now, use the white bottle. everyone else, use up what you've got... :dunno

I use Diesel Kleen religiously (like nearly every tank) and have had zero fuel issues in about 320k, so I'm a firm believer. I usually run about 8 ounces per tank and find that the cost of the additive is offset by the 1/2 to 1 mpg increase in fuel economy.....so it's worth it to me and I never have to worry about a dirty fuel system. It rarely gets cold enough here in east TN to worry about gelling, so I just use the silver bottle and nothing else. If I'm not mistaken, it prevents gelling also......just maybe not as good as the white???
