I went to the Ford Stealership today and inquired the cost of flushing the coolant system. $285.00 So I asked what it all entailed. I was informed that they flush the system with a mixture including a rust inhibitor (think it was VC9), etc.

I told him that I was just going to do it myself and he then said "try using Simple Green to clean it out"
I could see how this might clean out the system but wanted to get some input on the forum prior to using it.

Simple Green is biodegradable and usually cleans good, but I am not sure if the higher temp of the 6.0L would make a difference or the chemicals damaging the coolant system.

Truck only has 160k, but I had my radiator replaced (because I cracked the inlet connector) and found the lower hose 1/2 filled with crud. flushed the system once but want to clean/flush it out again to make sure it does not clog the coolers.

Input???

I can't think of any thing it would hurt. Just flush it good with water. Bottled water if you want to get anal about it. :)

If you have a local guy you trust you would probably be better to let them flush it. I had my guy do my radiator and tranny at the same time (100,000 on the coolant and 50,000 on the tranny) and I believe it was under $200.00. no mess no worries.
