Finally got my FPR shimmed today. I went with the #4 ss washers that Big Joe uses. A big PITA to get them ground down to fit in the brass insert. I'd almost rather use a screw or somethin with some more meat since its so hard to hold somethin really small like those washers. Had to go to a hydraulic place and get a few fittings since the 7.3 psd dont have schrader valves. So I took out the top plug on the drivers side on the back of the fuel filter bowl and installed a 90 degree fitting that a schrader valve would screw in. I used my dads fuel gauge set to see the fuel pressure. It was around 62 to 65 psi. I installed 3 washers and got it between 74 and 75 psi. It does sound different. Quieter I believe but wont know till I drive it everyday. Cost me 9 sumthin for the fittings which will just stay on there all the time. The washers were free since the place I got them from only sell them in a package and said it wasnt worth printing out the receipt for 4 washers haha.

The #4 SS washer thing seems to be a PIA for alota folks. I get them at Radio Shack.. the OD of the washer.. fits the ID of the spring cup.. CT perfect... outa the bag.

There may be a dif ? Like #4 common ?... and #4 mini, like for electronics ? :dunno

the "#4" is the hole size, not the OD, and the ones at Radidio Shacky are used for holding printed circuit boards to various electronic devices..

I used the BB method, and the truck runs a little smoother maybe?

what it does more than anything else is atomize the fuel better so you get a cleaner burn..
if you run a tuner, or have a chip programmed at a live tune day, it gives the guy burning the chip a little more leeway in the curves..

I got mine at fastenall. So yer probably right on the diff between regular washers from a fastener place and washers from electronics place. Didnt know radio shack would have somethin like that. haha. So JL, you think since it atomizes the fuel better that you get better fuel efficiency? It seems to run a lil quieter. Somethin definately sounds diff. Anyone do the dual circuit mod yet? Thats my next thing to mess with. I posted somethin about it earlier. Eventually I will be gettin a DP chip.

I liked using the screw on mine...and I dabbed a little bit of grease on the threads so it would kinda stick in the spring while I wiggled everything back in. I connected a 5/16" hose to the bottom of the drain tube with a gauge on the end. I first tried it without grinding the head of the screw....I think it wasnt seated into the center like it should have been. But I can tell you that the hose on the fuel/water speperator valve blows off at about 90psi:) Might raise it up a little bit later on. I just got tired of fooling with it, and chasing down another gasket for the compression sleeve.

My sleeve gasket was still there and in good shape. Did you do the dual circuit mod to the fuel lines on the motor?

the drain assembly is not designed to hold pressure while open. use the fittings and adapters.

the BB method if for OBS trucks. SD's need smaller shims.

if you are talking about the regulated return mod, that will replace the FPR you just shimmed- FPR= fuel pressure regulator.

X2

[Shimming] the FPR is just an Economical way, of achieving the same results as the various Regulated Return methods available.

Shade-Tree.. but it works.

One'a them "Yer Call" deals ?

you talking the full circuit oil lines?
eliminates the need to the 'LL' #8 injector, that's for sure...

as far as the efficiency goes, probably, but not enough you'd ever see it..
but it is the basis for several other modifications, though..
