you could always go out and get one of those push buton switches which are only on when you push on them. mount it on the floor board next to the clutch pedal. your going to down shift then let the clutch out, push the switch, when you lift your foot up the brake turns off. This is how I am planning on doing mine.

Exactly my sentiments? They will be for air splitters for the transmissions, or some of the old chevy 2 tons and such had vacuum split rearends in them too.
The air splitter on the front of the knob, and an electric slide switch for the splitter on the side of the knob. The one on the side is the one I'm looking for...

I was just wondering though why do you need the exhaust brake when shifting???
There is a 3-second lag before it comes on, which is typically the exact time I like to drop a gear and give the exhaust brake a little more bite, if you know what I mean...
If you are on the clutch you aren't gonna get any braking anyhow??
yes, for the second it is pushed in as i downshift, giving the brake time to close, so when I let off the clutch pedal, I get instant and very gratifying braking power.... I'm thinking that you don't have much experience with exhaust brakes. You have to downshift for them to do much...

Semi's with jake brakes are allowed to operate by letting off the loud pedal.
I know, which would ultimately be the best option. I just cannot figure out how to make it work or wire that up without some pretty complex electronics. The IVS turns OFF when you let off the throttle. I do not know how to wire a system that turns ON when another circuit turns OFF. I know the setup that CSIPSD has is a pretty complicated little box of electronics. I don't want or need that, I just want to relocate my switch to a more convenient location....
Jake brakes too btw are completely different critters, much more braking capacity than a butterfly in the exhaust.
I'm assuming your not talking to me on this one, as I've referred to it as an exhaust brake from the OP. I understand the difference.

Thanks for your ideas!

Jegs or summit carries them. I'm not sure if the shift pattern on the six speed matches or not? They are made for line locks and nitrous but should work for jake brake too. About $48 a pop though.

I saw those, too, Bryan. I was thinking that they would be just the ticket, except for the fact that they are buttons that have to be held down instead of switches that stay on until you shut them off. Not sure how well that would work.

Of course, the other option would be to simply mount a push/pull button to a bracket on the shift shaft, like they did on the old Chevy 2-tons. I just thought a switch in the knob would look cooler....

It's all about the coooool, you know???

Except for like I said, there is a 2-3 second delay in the brake turning on, and I like to have that delay happen at the same time I am shifting down one gear. I couldn't do that and operate the clutch at the same time......

Hoss, I have seen the knobs for ricers at vatozone that have a toggle on them. Would that help? :dunno
That's the sort of thing I'm looking for, but like Jopes said, I'm very picky....

I was hoping to have a big semi knob instead of some silly looking ricer knob. I'll check out the website and see what they have.

Thanks for the help guys....

Shifter switch

I've been looking at this too, I'm going to put a US Gear on mine, but I want my own controls. The IVS control of the exh brake has been done, may have to use a relay to reverse the function, but it's doable. Also, there is a shifter mounted switch exactly like you are looking for made by BD i believe. SP diesel has come different systems for this too. My plan: throttle closed = brake on, switch on stick arms the system, closing the throttle activates it.

Hoss-

555 timer circuit may just be the thing you are looking for, it will re-arm itself after activation. Or maybe a timed relay?

555 Monostalbe circuit

Timed Relay from Newark

How long do you want the button push to hold the EBV closed before the pedal? Did you already do the DPDT EBV mod for braking? I would think that you would wire this button/circuit in parallel to trigger the EBV actuator.

maybe i don;t get it...
