Sheetrock $8/sheet?????

I just bought some 4x8 1/2" sheetrock at Lowes yesterday and it was $8/sheet, is that the going rate? When did it get so expensive? I thought it was right around $4 not long ago. Soon it will be cheaper to use hardwood veneer plywood.

Not sure what the price is for that around here, but I'll take a look when I'm at Home Despot tomorrow.

High strength 1/2" rock is $8/4'x8' sheet here in Minneapolis....regular 1/2" is $5.40/sheet.

Hmmm, this is GP ToughRock but it is not so tough. There was not lower-cost low-strength option either. I will have to look around a bit here.

What I'm calling high strength rock is 1/2" that is designed for ceiling use in place of 5/8" rock....
