I have 2000 F350 with a 7.3. It has been absolutely bullet proof. I own a race car business and do a bunch of towing with it. I left my shop Friday, truck started just fine. Had just under a quarter tank in it. Went about a mile and thought I started to feel a subtle miss. It then bucked a couple of times, I feathered the accelerator to keep it running and then I pulled to a stop light and it died. It almost tried to start once but wouldn't now it just cranks and doesn't try to fire. I changed the fuel filter about a year ago. I checked it and it looked fine. I changed the CPS and no change. I know I am getting fuel pressure because after checking the filter I didn't have the cap quite tight enough and is sprayed fuel like it was under a bunch of pressure.

Does anyone have any ideas fore me?

Thanks.

i would recommend that you change your fuel filter more than once a year. i believe the manual says every 15,000 miles. its worth a shot to change it and see what happens. im sure someone else will chime in with more help.

Yeah I had already purchased one but once I got it out the new one wasn't compatible. It was genuine motorcraft but the one that I bought had the prefilter screen and paper filter as one unit. The one in the truck had the prefilter as part of the lid so I couldn't install it. Just seems like a fuel filter wouldn't completely kill the truck and then prevent it from starting. Do you agree.

Thanks for the reply.

Are you getting any smoke out of the tailpipe? If so, what color? How old is the fuel filter that is in the truck? My thoughts are if the filter is a year old, it is probably plugged with the data that you have provided. We still need some more info if possible. Do you have any modifications done to the truck? How many miles? Is your check engine light on?

O.k. as far as mods it had an edge juice, big exhaust, cold air kit. Engine is stock and turbo is stock.

I pulled the codes and there weren't any. No smoke on start-up at all. It has been running great. Haven't noticed any loss of power or anything. Has been starting quick. That is why I was so surprised when it started missing and then died. The whole sequence happened in about a minute. Went from running fine to a very subtle miss, I even thought my foot was bouncing on the accelerator while driving it was so subtle. Then the miss got more pronounced and then it died at the stop light.

Any thoughts on losing the base oil pump?

Let me know what other specifics might help.

When you say had an edge juice, does this mean that you pulled it out? If not, pull it out and try it again.

So just pull the juice out and leave everything else hooked up? I switch it to stock mode and it made no difference. I did not try removing it though.

Any thoughts on base oil pressure. What I did notice while cranking it the oil pressure needle never moved. One dealership thought it could be the base oil pump but another one said they never go bad.

on the 7.3L would fuel pressure at the filter be a confirmation
that fuel pressure (and HPOP) are good at the injectors ???
