Funny, a similar line worked for me. The wifey said to me after my vintage Ford Explorer blew the engine

"Aw, hon. Why don't you go over to Hub City Ford and pick out a new truck that you like?"

The Beast came home the next day.

The wife is now more deliberate in her choice of words.
