I recently purchased a 2003 Superduty with a 6.0L diesel.
I'm doing allot of research on what is needed to watch out for and what maintenance is required.

I have a question pertaining to a ruff idle when cold start up. When I start the engine (cold) it starts normal and then chuggs and idles ruff. When the engine is warm it runs perfectly. I have changed the fuel filters.
I often get a P02285 code too (which sometimes goes off after warm up).

Does anyone have input???

there is a tsb from ford ,07-5-4, that adresses this issue with your vehicle.the spool valve in the injector is sticking causing a rough idle that goes away when hot.the code i couldnt find in my diag codes.

Your Diagnostic code does not exist. The number of the code is wrong. Do you mean P0258?? That is: P0258 Injection Pump Fuel Metering Control "B" Low (Cam/R...

Nope I meant to say P2258
Is says something about low fuel pressure at the sensor.

When I start my truck it starts at a low ruff idle and then after about 45 sec. to a minute it increases idle speed and still runs ruff (loudly). I can kind of describe it as like when one would pull the choke on the engine making the idle increase. The engine runs normal after warming up and the CEL goes out.

I had some issues with my truck a few weeks ago, idled very ruff when first starting it… I had 2 bad injectors, changed them out, runs nice and smooth now. I believe they were on there way out for some time.

Code table:
Diagnostic Codes P2199 thru U0306

Ok, I am really a dope. The code is P2285= low pressure at the sensor.

I am not sure if it is a fuel injector because the truck runs fine after warm up.
A friend, of a friend told me it might be a bad sensor and that sensor tells the computer to surge to high idle. I hear that the sensor on a 03 6.0L is in a difficult spot. Does anyone have pics on the location? and instruction?
