Just went to Wally World today for some Rotella 5W-40 Syn. $22.00 A GALLON!!! WTF!!! $ 7.00 increase since the last time I bought some. What possible justification would they have for that?Howard

I saw 5 gallon buckets at Advanced Auto Parts for $61.99 and I thought that was extremely high. I have found over the last few years that Advanced Auto Parts was cheaper than Wal-Mart. I think the last time I bought a 5 gallon bucket at Advanced it was $43-$47, somewhere in that area.

Not sure what your reference point is (what/when are you comparing prices to?), but the price of crude oil affects EVERY refined petroleum product, not just gas/diesel. "What possible justification would they have?" That's entirely impossible for us to answer, but I'm sure it is directly related to the wholesale price they paid....

Thats exactly it. They locked in their wholesale prices when crude was at $100+/bbl. Even though it has come off considerably (now dancing around $60), they still have to charge the higher price to keep their profit margin locked in. Once they get this batch sold and buy at a lower wholesale price, I would think prices should go back down....of course thats all pending on the fact that crude doesn't run back up.

i paid $22 a gallon also a couple weeks ago. that was up from about $18 a couple months ago.

$18 per gallon is what I was paying for several years. I think you had better check your records. That or buy oil stocks.

edit- that $61.99 was for the Dino Rotella-T, not the synthetic.

While I do understand the concept of higher oil prices = higher prices on all consumer goods, even diesel didn't go up $7.00 a gallon. I paid around $15.00 this last spring.

Your question sounded like you were asking what possible "justification" Walmart could have for raising the price by $7/gal. I may have misinterpreted your question. However, it looks like the price went up just about everywhere. That being the case, it looks like exactly what I was explaining, a market increase, not a Walmart increase.
With market commodities, prices tend to be volitile, based on market speculation. This summers gas/giesel prices are an excellent example, as there never was a shortage. Speculation drove the increases. That is also why the stock market has plunged.
