Its been a looong time since I attended an AMSOil school but I seem to remember them suggesting not going to the synthetic oils until the engine got broken in good(ie - the piston rings got set...etc). I don't recall how many miles that was but I am thinking it was at least 10k.
On the gas applications we learned that the added lubricity of the synthetic would prolong the seating/break in process resulting in less than optimal blow by and fuel milage. I would think the same would apply to diesels.
Change the oil now...........sure. But I would suggest staying with the dino oil for a while longer.
Thats just my 2 cents worth..........Call Bob Reilly or another AMSOil dealer to see what they say.
