While in WM today, I saw the 2 1/2 gallon jugs of Rotella 15w40 for 22.00, who knows I may switch from Delo back to Rotella.

im paying $11 a gal for my delo...for me it isnt worth saving a couple bucks to swap away from a synthetic base oil...blackstone lab's tells me i can go 15k miles easy with lots of molly and very little were on my motor..but i stay with 8k mile changes..nice to know i have room to play when things are busy..

Is it safe to switch between synthetic and non-syntheticoils like that? I know when i had my ranger, i was interested in going synthetic, but i was highly recommended not to because it had over 75K. I read that you basically had to "clean out" your motor after 75K before going synthetic. Are diesels different in this sense?

I will most likely stay with Delo 15w40. Been using it for a while now. My 7.3 seems to like it better than the Rotella 15w40. I have read where 7.3 owners switch to various brands of 15w40 with no issues, as well as synthetic 5w40 and back 15w40. I guess the main concern is making sure what ever oil your using make sure it is diesel rated. Good quality oil filters such as the Motorcraft oil filter are important also.

I was unaware that Delo 400 is a synthetic oil. I am running Rotella 5w40 synthetic and my truck really likes it, especially when temps drop below zero.
