Ok, I have a problem with tire size and rim width. This thread has prompted me to ask questions
I was "talked" into purchasing 285/75-16 Tires from Tire Kingdom about a year or so ago. Well after driving on them at the recommended tire pressure, I found that stopping on wet pavement was next to impossible, and stopping on dry pavement wasn't very good either. Took me about two weeks to find this out.
To make a long story a little shorter, the bottom line is that I have to run about 32 lbs of air to keep the tires flat on the pavement. The tire was designed for 8.5 to 10 inch rims, so to keep them from being like a donut with only 2" on the pavement at recommended air pressure I run them at 32 lbs.
What are the largest tires my stock rims will accept?
or in other words...
What are the width dimensions requirements of some of the more popular tires? (middle of the road pricewise) Not the high dollar ones... an elephant stepped on my pocket book
Thanks,
RoReRi
