The other day Lance(Tbar) & I installed the Dahl 100 fuel filter kit on the truck and have had positive and unusual results post install.

The unusual would be that fuel pressure increased by 3 psi.

Pressure prior to install was 72 psi and it didn't matter what the engine or ambient air temps were.

We believe that there was some air intrusion prior to the fuel pump or something might have been lodged in the fuel pump.

Any fellow 7.3L owners that have installed a pre pump kit such as the Dahl or Racor kit have similar results?

Yes Bill. When I installed the Dahl 100, pre pump, my FP went up some. My FP gauge is'nt graduated very precisely but it did increase 2 maybe 3 lbs.

JMO but I attribute it to a More free flow, coming to the pump because of the volume of fuel in the Dahl. I did'nt dwell on it to long tho.. cuz it was a "Good Thing" ;) :)

You could be right as I think I read that the Dahl bowl holds something like 40 oz which would be a quick draw for the pump:sweet

As usual the whole behavior of the engine changes all in the positive range:)

Bill, where did you place your filter--above or below the tank? If you put it above is it easy to get to it so you can drain any water?

We installed it behind the transfer case for the best protection from flying rocks/debris.

I dont recall any change when i installed mine. My pressure runs about 75 psi. It will drop when the 2 micron gets dirty though. Got some gunk somewhere a few months ago and that was the first water I have EVER recovered from my fuel system.

Ah good--that's what we were thinking after we looked at the pics that came with the directions. I think putting it anywhere near the fuel tank--especially below it--leaves the thing open to an excellent chance of getting seriously damaged or destroyed. Oftentimes I travel in cut cornfields where the stalks are left pretty high and those stalks are sharp and tough and get stuck in the undercarriage.

Here's some pics taken from our install. I chose behind the T case to provide some extra protection from rocks/road debris that might kick up off the roadway surface. I may try to fab up a bracket that'll bring it up a couple inches higher tho.

I like your work!

I'm looking to do the same thing but with a heated bowl instead. Any sponsors carry them??

I'm still not sold on the Hutch mod without the ability to provide heat somewhere. And...how can air get *into* the system via the pickup tube (return line) if we eliminate any vacuum leaks on the intake line? What am I missing here?
