drain the radiator into a 5 gal pail, remove the upper radiator hose, (I found it a lot easier by removing the serpentine belt first) remove the 3 bolt holding the thermostat housing on, (be careful not to drop the rear bolt down behind the water pump, I used a needle nose plier to hold the bolt when it was almost out) remove the housing, pull the gasket out, and remove the thermostat. assembly is reverse of removal, either buy a new upper thermostat housing or use silicone (gasket maker) around the outside or it will leak. you also may want to change to the upper hose for the dual alternator setup, that way if you need to replace the belt you wont have to remove the hose
what do you mean 'dual alternator setup'?? i only have one alternator
If you look at the bracket yer Alternator sets on, just below it, there's a molded area of that bracket where a hose could be. While you have the Thermo removed, along with the upper Radiator hose ? you could replace that hose with one that goes AROUND the Serp. belt instead of Through it.
