36 mm. socket on 1/2" ratchet works great if you dont want to spend more than ten bucks. I tried a strap wrench, didn't work well at all.

36mm socket??? how does that work? I use a motorcraft 1995 oil filter that has a smooth bottom. And i found that i have to put on the oil filter SUPER tight so it won't leak. soooo im all for the screwdriver method for getting them off but I dont think that will quite work for installing them. Unless its O.K. for putting them on and some dents on the bottom is ok....

P.S. Matco oil filter wrench for sale!

The 6.0 oil filter and hfcm filter caps are easy to remove with a simple 36mm socket. I have a strap wrench for canister filters, it doesn't work real well. Sorry.
