I dont really want to spend $5000+ on a transmission for my truck, anyone have any luck with the remans on ebay or similar? It would be nice to have one of the big 3 trans rebuilders trans but the money they want is wayyy to much. Almost $5000 for the bare trans

I bought the truck used, its a 1999 7.3 drw with 8 inch lift and 37" swamper. And had trouble with flexplates (7 of them) and the last 4 were 2 at a time and lasted 1 or 2 years each (I laminated them together). This last time the center pushed out and I guess pushed the converter too far back and blocked some kind of vent because the tranny pukes fluid after a few minutes sitting. The transmission never ever shifted good, and SLAMMED pretty regularly which I think was damaging the flexplate

Looking for a rebuilt trans (moderate build), new torque converter, new cooler and lines, flexplate, possibly a large trans pan for around $5000 total. Any recommendations?

You are really pushing that tranny with the 22.5 tires and lift kit. If you want to play with the big boys, you got to pay. No cheap route out on this one. Good luck with your search.

check out the transmission offerings from racerX automotive He sells transmissions assembled or as a DIY kit. In the end for a DIY you'll be in around 2k with converter, parts, tools etc.

Given the size tire you're running and from the snapping of flexplates if the axles haven't been regeared then that is an excellent place to spend your money and will help take the stress off of the flexplate and will help you off the line. Stock gears are likely 3.73 (possibly 4.10) a 4.56 gear would help dramatically. ATS offers a billet flexplate for around $800, however with proper gearing you shouldn't need this. Play around with this gear calculator the first calculator will tell you what tire size you need to have the same engine RPM's but keep in mind that you've roughly doubled the mass that needs to start spinning so go to a higher numerical gear. The stock tires were roughly 32" tall.

I think you'll find that with different gearing, a lot of your problems will be alleviated and the driveability will be a lot better
