im confused...do you OWN a 6.0 ?

No, I own a 7.3 BUT I spend a lot of time with 6.0 customers. There is no denying that the 6.0 has problems. There are quite a few of them that can be prevented. Using OE filters is one way.

Another way to help resolve the EGR issues is using PM22A Cetane Boost. The biggest reason for EGR is low cetane. Most US diesel fuel is only around 40 cetane. The 6.0 requires 45-52 cetane to operate correctly. Excessive idling is the other cause for EGR issues.

I have a vested interest in educating customers. Ford has not done a great job at this.

Watch the video.

This to my knowledge is not published. I got this from a Blue Diamond engineer. His claim is that the additive can raise the cetane 4-6 points. I have ran the PM-22-A in my 7.3 and it quiets injectors on a 7.3. It also raised my mpg by 1.5 which suited me just fine. His claim is that it will make diesel fuel burn hotter and leave less soot behind that clogs the EGR valve and intake. It makes since to me.

claiming that a cetane booster increases cetane isnt hard to believe...
but what im curious about is why the bottle doesnt say how MUCH
it boosts cetane levels.

an interesting review & cross check of the MSDS shows that this
stuff is made from coal tar & moth balls (no kidding, look it up)...but
whats even MORE interesting is that OTHER companies use the
EXACT same chemicals....so its hardly unique.

are you telling me this FORD booster gets you 1.5 miles per GALLON
MORE...jsut from 20oz.....at that rate ford should go into production
of combustible FUELs ! 'course the cost per gallon would be insane !

im curious what other boosters youve tried...

I am personally not a fan of additives but this stuff did do what it claimed. I wish I could give you a personal opinion on a 6.0. Maybe my millage increase was a fluke. I donno for sure but it did quiet my one noisy injector for sure. :sweet

Here is a PDF on EGR and Motorcraft fuel additives:

that ad is a joke, sorry but its nothing more than an ad to sell
additive....no matter HOW much additive you run youll NEVER have
an egr valve as clean as a NEW ONE.

and im sorry but i dont take ads like that seriously....if it were an
indepentant test, that showed TWO EGRs that had been run for the
same amount of miles and same FUEL (and idle times) and showed
that one was cleaner THEN id say it was worth looking at.

comparing a CLEAN egr and a SOOT covered egr tells me NOTHING...
except that folks that belive an ad like that have NEVER seen an
egr valve after slight use.

the filter video is nice, detailed...i can tell you that the FRAM filters and
the M/C filters are exactly the same...and both are available for 15-16 bucks
at walmart (the dealer will get 35+ for the same filter)

the filter in the MIDDLE of the video is the WIX/NAPA Gold...if you need
one let me know ive got it...new in the box...its yours for free <cause ill
never use it>

The ad is no joke. It did not claim to keep a EGR valve perfect by using it. Its claim is it helps the problem. Read the "bottom line" before passing judgement.

Most pump diesel is only 40 cetane or less. Ford/Navistar states 45 mininum. A 7.3 could probably run forever on less cetane but it does not have EGR.

Look at Fram's fuel filters. Are they the same too? Do they have the air bleed?

If you were Ford would you pay a warranty claim for injector failure if the customer had an aftermarket fuel filter and oil filter?

I hear people complain about the 6.0 all the time but part of the problem is their own fault because they buy substandard parts and blame the truck when the substandard parts cause a failure. The fuel issue is a different story.

The purpose of this thread is to educate. Not to compare prices. As for using a Fram Filter. Go for it. Its your truck.
