I have removed the big blanket snapped to the underneath of the hood? Is it used mostly to muffle the sound of the engine? I will probably put it back for the winter to help keep the engine warm . But for the summer time I find it really keeps too much heat under the hood. Does anyone feel this may cause a problem. :thanks
Jim
PS what a hassle changing underneath fuel filter:eek:

id rather keep the heat UNDER the hood..then have it coming thru the
hood boiling my paint off.

once the truck is moving theres no way that heat is gonna be
trapped under there very long...there way too much air flow from
the FRONT and underside (as well as fenders)

i keep reading this
one day everyone wants the hood blanket and is po.d that ford took em out
now folks want to remove em :dunno :dunno
i put one on my 06 and my 02 had one, personally the "quiet" factor more than makes up for any possible Heat issues

now when she is stationary, and i kick up the high idle....... We get HEAT rolling out of the fenders and the sides ,
but the cab is CHilllin :D

i think the "keeps too much heat in" is a dealer/sales/production excuse...
the hood blanket was dropped from production what...3.5-4 model years
ago...and this is the 1st we're hearing of a heat issue !?!

one winter of seeing the snow melt on the hood JUST above the turbo
location on the hood will make anyone put the blanket back on...

its almost comical when i hear folks say they wanna remove the blanket
yet the wanna wrap the exhaust...

If blistering the hood paint was the reason for the blanket, Ford would have kept it. How many hoods would they want to paint/replace? My '05 X has no blanket, nor do I plan to install one.

Regarding wrapping the exhaust, I trust you mean the turbo and/or down pipe. For reasons of thermal efficiency in the turbo, that makes perfect sense. It would also reduce the underhood temperatures (less heat radiating from the turbo/downpipe) that would tend to accumulate in the engine compartment.

Anyone else open their hood in the garage to get rid of the excess heat?

heat wrap

I just purchased heat wrap for my downpipe. It is good up to 2500 degrees. I am going to wrap the full length of the down pipe, so the transmission gets the benifit of a cooler pipe also. My 06 did not come with a under hood sound deadener. It is quiet in my cab, and do not think that the sound deadener is needed. I think the heat issue from the turbo causing paint discoloration could be a real issue. Anyone not wrapping their down pipe should keep a look out for paint discoloration.

Haven't been here in a while, but this thread caught my eye...

I would venture to say one afternoon in the Texas sun will heat the TOP part of the hood almost as much as the engine could when moving :)

not even close...TOPS the interior of my truck (w/out the sun shades
in place) reaches 140 degrees...my fluke lazer temp has produced
readings on the EXHAUST side of the turbine of over 1200
