Yes, but you must leave the truck out of gear and connect a nutural safety switch to prevent startup while in gear.

I have the ford one, came with the truck, I think it works well. I don't need an alarm where I live so that doesn't really bother me. The key fob that tells you when the truck is running would be nice tho.

i didnt think i needed an alarm EITHER...It only cost me 500 bucks in lost
STEREO/HEAD UNIT...could have been worse...I was "lucky".

I look at it this way...alarm gives 'em an excuse to move on to YOUR
truck ;)

the alarm gave me a 10% discount on insurance AND i get remote start,
and IDLING w/out keys along w/ cool down timer...AND protection from
<some> meth-head.

I have the viper system and it works great. One thing to remember is to have the start delay set for 20 sec. ( jsut to be safe) for the glowplugs to heat up. I really like these things in the winter! Good luck.

I've got the Clifford, same basic unit as the viper still made by DEI, it's got the 1 mile range and LCD pager, I absolutely love it, would not want to be with out the remote start:cool:

You don't need a 20s delay start with the viper, it can monitor the wait to start light for glow plug warmup.

A few months after buying the F250 had Circuit City install the Viper 550 ESP one way pager remote start with alarm. This was 7 years ago when the truck had 41K miles. Fires over as soon as the wait to start light turns off.

The alarm has never skipped a beat and has gone through no more than three battery changes. Current mileage, 249K.

My wifes 95 Bronco had a Ford dealership installed Astro installed and it worked for a few years and malfuctioned one day and when we traded it for the Mustang two remote start installers couldn't figure out why the remote start wouldn't work.

Had Circuit City install the two way Python on the Excursion two years ago and it works good. Works like the Python in the F250 fires over right away.

Last year Circuit City installed the two way Python in the dually and it's worked good ever since. Only problem is they say that there was no option for the wait to start light fire so it's on a 20 second timer.

The biggest draw back to the two way is how often the aaa battery fails. Seems every few months the pager beeps on it's own.

The diesel techs say the glow plugs warm for two minutes after the initial key turn so waiting 20 seconds may actually be better in severe cold than starting right away.

Cold as in -20 like Winters here in MN.

The biggest draw back to the two way is how often the aaa battery fails. Seems every few months the pager beeps on it's own.

the 2way alarms/remotes have TWO of different communications modes.

Non-PAGE (1way) Mode (considered battery conservation mode)
&
PAGE (2way) Mode

Non-Pageing (or 1-way communications) mode is a simple send command only,
w/OUT confirmation that the command was either recv'd or that the request
was executed/completed.

PAGE MODE (or 2-way communications) provides a higher level of
security...page mode is where the remote & truck alarm
periodically wake up and check that they are w/in range and
no faults have occured....this is a TRUE 2way communications

in PAGE mode the alarm sends back a confirmation...that the request
SENT (lock/unlock/start etc) was recv'd (alarm w/in range) and that
the request WAS (or was NOT) executed.

so in the NON-PAGE mode a command is sent
(and its HOPED that the command was accepted and performed)

PAGE MODE (on) method includes confirmation that the command was recv'd and
executed...if the action WAS NOT performe the remote will beep 3 times and the
remote display will NOT change.

Additionally if youre in NON-PAGE mode and the alarm goes off...your
remote will NOT notify you.

In PAGE mode (ON) if the alarm is tripped, the remote will beep, light up and/or
buzz (vibrate)

LCD displays consume more power than remotes that DONT have LCD displays...but
they also provide an visual confirmation/display

even MORE power would be consumed by a COLOR LCD display.

Personally i prefer PAGE mode & i go thru about 1 <aaa> battery
per month...
