I've seen a few kits out there for a SD PSD, but I would like some firsthand feedback from those who have been there, done that. What are y'alls recommendations for an 8" lift? Will I lose any of my towing/hauling ability, or is the suspension designed to take a heavy load like stock?
Thanks,
Jesse

I have an 8" Edge(donahoe), see below sig. I tow every once in a while. I weighed the trailer at the grain elevator before I left Indiana on one trip. It surprised me when the scale showed 9600#, with a tongue of 1100#. I do use a weight distributing hitch when I pull this. I have the deepest drop that I could find and it still sits just a shade high in the front. If I was going to pull this more than I do I would have more gear(to make up for the tires), a custom made deeper drop and more power.

It is really one of those it depends answers. It depends on how much you tow, it depends on who's suspension you put on your truck, it depends on how much weight you're towing, it depends on whether you can make some adjustments to your driving while towing, it depends on how much time and effort you want to put into it.

If you do not want to make some compromises, then a stock truck is the best to tow with. But it will never look as cool.:sweet

I hope this helps, Greg

I'm leaning towards the Skyjacker setup because it includes the braided vacuum and brake hoses as well as other parts that the Superlift doesn't seem to have. The most I tow will be about 7500, I definitely change my driving when I tow, and I can custom make my drop hitch. On rockymountainsusp.com I can get the Skyjacker 8" for 2000 and the Superlift 8" with dual steering stabilizer for 1691 with Superride shocks, and 1875 with Bilsteins. The Skyjacker doesn't have the steering stabilizer though...
Think that price is about right?
Do I need the steering stabilizer?

I purchased the Skyjacker brake lines also. Going to put on the ones I got from Superduty HQ's when I get a chance. If you can make your drop, you're ahead of the game. That's not something I feel comfortable doing and would farm that out.

I would also check out www.truckperformance.com and http://www.offroadwarehouse.com sometimes they offer free ground shipping. This can be the surprise:eek: when purchasing something this heavy over the web. Might even price it thought your local shop just to keep everyone honest. I don't follow pricing all that closely, but it sounds about right for those manufacturers

Yes, you will need at least one steering stabilizer. Two will always look better.:thumbs

Since you're going to be towing watch the load ratings on your tires, thats why I ended up with the rims and tires I have. I do not do bling, bling :D on rims and tires, needed 18's w/Nittos to hold up the rear of the truck w/the trailer attached.

How does that price compare to your Donahoe lift? I was told the steering was way too jerky with one stabilizer and two fixed it. I agree with the tires though, I want a d rated tire for sure and they are hard to find at 38" unless you step up the rim size = more expensive tires...yay, you play you pay, eh?

Pricing from OffroadWarehouse.com right now starts @ $2073.00 w/5" rear spring you will add everything else to that. You will need to compare how they are lifting the rear. They are offering free shipping until 7/31. I believe that the Dreaver spring that Donahoe has spec'd rides better and it is designed for the diesel version only. All other engine combos just get a higher lift, they offer no other spring. If you're not sure about something you can always call Donahoe. I did a couple times when I had questions before I bought mine.

I have not run the single steering stabilizer, none offered by Donahoe. So, I'm not a good source of info on single versus double.

Compare the actual weight rating of the tires in pounds, not the letter rating. You might be surprised at what you see. Tires in these sizes vary greatly.

Also, do not forget the adjustable track bar(pan hard bar) and the front driveshaft with need to be replaced or at least the stock one lengthened. The steering linkage and the track bar MUST be at the same angle or you WILL have bump steer. The rear driveshaft will have to be shimmed to elimate shimmy usually from a stop, if you have a two piece shaft.

I sure there's something I forgot to mention. But, do more research and ask questions before you buy, it's too late after they have your cash.:D

And yes you pay to play. These trucks can turn into money pits.

Keep in mind that there is about a 95% chance that your rear drive shaft wont cut it any more, and a 100% chance that your front wont work either. Those are things that will need serious mods. I looked into this real hard and found a place that will make the drive shafts work (or replace them with ones that will). but you will also need a transfer case reindexing kit to take some of the bend out of the front shaft. I also found that you get what you pay for.... the hard way!
good luck

Wow, your truck looks just like mine, but white...Do you like that Evo and the 5" exhaust? Have any pics of the truck after the 4" lift?

Back to topic, do you have a company name and price for those driveshafts? The Skyjacker claims to come with a rear-end shim to nose it up to correct some of the pinion angle, not sure about the front though. Got any links?
