Hey there, i've noticed fuel leaking from my rear tank, was wondering how hard it is to removed and inspect. I think its coming from one of the lines, but its hard to tell now. of course i have a full tank so i'm trying to use as much as possible before dropping it. thanks for any tips.

its not a LOT of work...run the tank low (so it weighs less)...pull the
straps & filler neck hardware and drop the tank (support the tank
w/ a 2x8 and use a jack to lower the tank)

i dont know if you year is metal or plastic (tanks)...but my 96 f150 gasser
had metal tanks (i dropped 'em to replace the float/sending unit).

my 1990 F-250 was difficult. I had to use the torch:doh: to cut off the trailer hitch to get the tank out. but other than that its not hard. 2 straps and 3 screws I think

ok, of course i just filled up too, so maybe 13-14 gallons still in it, i tried to run it low, but it seemed to kinda have a hiccup, switched to the front tank and its running fine. the leak is still there, so i'm guessing its the tank, its metal and its probably rotten. i hope its a line, but i wont be able to get to this until a few days. just frustrating. this appears to be right above the spare tire since the fuel is dripping of the rear leaf spring mount and spare tire.

on the way home from work now, i had flipped it to the rear tank to try and use a little more fuel, and i turned a sharp corner, the check engine light came on, i wasn't able to accelerate, although the engine was still running, i switched to the front tank and the light went off, then it seemed to be in a limp mode the tranny shifted very early and low power also.

heres an old trick...

if you can find the leak/hole and its not TOO big (most start out as
pin holes)...take some BAR soap (i used ivory) and rub over the hole...
itll stop for a FEW days...at least.
