Maybe intermittent isn't the right word. This is the first and only time this has happened.

Drove the truck yesterday for about 20 miles. Stopped, then drove another 3 miles to work. When I got to work, I could smell the brakes heavily and smoke was coming out from my driver's side rear wheels. Looked under truck and it was coming from brakes. Wheels were dry - no blown seals. However, the calipers weren't stuck! The truck rolled free, although the rear driver-side brakes were clearly overheated.

Drove the truck back home a couple hours later and the brakes did not act up again. Pulled the truck into the shop and pulled the driver-side rear wheels off. Caliper pins were fine. Pads were good.

I'm stumped why I had this one-time issue. Any ideas?

Your parking Brake is inside of the little hub below the disc. Sounds like you may have a hanging parking brake.
