the plunger gets sucked to the reading by the vacuum of the air getting drawn through the filter.

if you are not sure, reset it and drive it.

you could get 50-80K on those filters!

that plunger will relay a light on your dash saying that your filter is dirty.

driving in the dusty conditions, I try to keep all filters as clean as possible.

I honestly do not know how many miles are on my air filter.... I have put close to 30k on my truck and have not changed it. I am not sure if the PO ever changed it, but I am sure they did.... the maintenance records I have on it there were pretty thorough about the maintenance. I have mileage ### next to all the "milestones" in the owners manual for all the services right up until before I bought it (I am the second owner).

I did some research on the air filter. The stock filter (the one with the blue filter material) is made by Baldwin for Ford. If I remember the Ford specs correctly, that filter is capable of holding something like 3 POUNDS of contaminates before it become clogged by the Ford'sSpecs. So I would say that unless you are driving around in a sand or dust storm constantly, they will last quite a long time.

I double checked the 6.0 Bible and it says that "The air filter is capable of holding 1600 grams of particulates before needing replacement" So doing a little math... 1600 Grams = 3.53 Pounds. That is a lot of dust and dirt........

as mentioned the stock filters are good for up to 500hp and apparently last a good while but also if you buy a good aftermarket such as the afe you shouldnt have a problem stay away from k&n and just make sure you take the time to clean it and re install it right....i have an AFE and have had it on since around 8k and i now sit at 135k and knock on wood no problems at all so just up to the owner

Stop changing so often! My 03 was sold at 87K with original filter. My 06 was changed for the first time at 100k & just because I was bored. The filter monitors have been on heavy equipment for years. They work and I've been in snow storms to prove it. You could probably sell your used filters for $20 since they were not REALLY used.

They should never cost more than $50 if you shop around and do it yourself.

If you decide you want one i have an AFE system i'll sale, i'll take $100 for it.
It's like used for maybe 5000mi.
I just found that the dirt right of way i drive on the job makes it need to be cleaned to otfen.
My ford filter has 106,000 on it, just take it out and knock the dirt out every so often.
